It was warm long enough to go for a hunt. I choose the wrong location I think because i hit it super hard many times before but it was right on the ocean and soft enough to dig at least. I bushwhacked hard and got a few finds but nothing special. The find if the day for me was a eyeball find for a change. The huge waves last storm took a lot of a bank down. As i was detecting below on the shoreline i noticed a nice clay pipe bowl laying there. I wish it was fully complete but this will have to do until i do. I usually only find bits and pieces of them. Anyone know the age of this one feel free to chime in. I was guessing mid 1800’s. It was nice getting out before the next snow storm Tuesday and another cold snap coming. Thanks for looking! Great pipe bowl. They are rarely found intact. As a bonus it has a beatiful design, I have never found a similar one. That buckle looks similar to musket sling buckle.

Congrats on the finds! You're lucky to be able to detect. It's a frozen tundra where I'm at.

That’s wonderful you got out. Hopefully we’ll have a more moderate finish to Winter after the harsh start. Fingers crossed.

Great pipe bowl. Are you able to get the bore diameter on the stubby bit of stem before the bowl? If you can it may help you get an average date.

Great find. Its hard to find one that the bowl isn't already broken or broke when you dig the hole. Glad you got out, Springs coming.

The easiest way to find the bore diameter is to compare the hole diameter with those of drill bits. In other words, see what size drill bit will fit into the bore hole. Once the bore hole diameter is determined, its possible to get a target age.

Great looking bowl, congrats on getting it complete. Measure the smoke small hole where the stem attaches.

Post a pic of the smoke hole buddy. Just as a reference this is a mid-late 1600s stem next to an early 1800s stem. The difference is quite amazing.

A little info on the bore diameter/date calculation, it only applies to English and Dutch made pipes. American made pipes, which there were a lot of by the mid 1700s, had drastically different bore diameters.
