It was warm long enough to go for a hunt. I choose the wrong location I think because i hit it super hard many times before but it was right on the ocean and soft enough to dig at least. I bushwhacked hard and got a few finds but nothing special. The find if the day for me was a eyeball find for a change. The huge waves last storm took a lot of a bank down. As i was detecting below on the shoreline i noticed a nice clay pipe bowl laying there. I wish it was fully complete but this will have to do until i do. I usually only find bits and pieces of them. Anyone know the age of this one feel free to chime in. I was guessing mid 1800’s. It was nice getting out before the next snow storm Tuesday and another cold snap coming. Thanks for looking! A little info on the bore diameter/date calculation, it only applies to English and Dutch made pipes. American made pipes, which there were a lot of by the mid 1700s, had drastically different bore diameters.

Good to know. I wish there was more stem remaining that had possibly a maker stamped on it. If i had to guess its probably british made being found up here in Nova Scotia! [emoji2]

Can any of you experts expand on why the “bore hoe” diameter makes a difference?
What caused the change in manufacturing differencing?

I have no idea but maybe it helped somehow with the burn time by less oxygen? Or stopped to much ash and hot embers from coming through the pipe stem into the mouth? Im just guessing but maybe something along those lines. Hope we have a pipe expert kicking around! [emoji2]

That pipe looks molded in one place.ive seen some that were turned inside.and some from metal to help keep their hands warm. Nice finds for sure.
