So here is my question. There are a lot of mounds in this area. I would never dig or disturb in any way. They have been pilfered in the past, digging sewer lines, building roads etc. I have found surface finds in the vicinity of these mounds(or whats left of them). I`m sure they were dug up with the dirt and where dirt was not used to fill in holes,,well they have come to the surface. So am I wrong to pick them up and keep them? I cant re-bury them. So,,,,,,what are your thoughts?
Thank you
Lori

Hey AgeOld!!! You too, huh???

When I was a kid they scraped a lot of Clearwater. We should surely hunt together!!!

[email protected]. Heck, this place is wonderful, I met gator and we are already talking a out fishing and hunting (fish and stones lol) and now i have met two more friends?!!!

Cool place. I am glad I didn't say anything stupid in the first three hours I was here lol. I will start hitting the forums from my Desktop so I can upload recent finds. I am one of those "dig anywhere and always look down" kind of guys, too. The Barbeque story is too much.

Hit me and we will definitely hunt one afternoon. I have a couple of places me and my point-buddy wanna check out. It is in Gulfport!!!!! And I will bet my ass we will find a ton of great stuff where I am thinking of. Public property and we are literally friends with the city managers. If we give them a point or two they will let us scrape a mile of waterfront mangroves that have just been cut for a road, I think this used to be a freaken fish farm, and if I am right we are gonna find more points and tools than we can carry, I have a feeling about this one.

Having one or two of you from this forum do the site too would be cooler than hell. Hit me this week and we will talk about when we might do it. Weekends would be good, but weekdays much better.

It is one of three verrrrrry hot spots I have in mind right now.

we used to put on a killer artifact show in Gulfport, at the old casino on Shore drive back in the early 90`s. it was a big show packed wall to wall tables and plenty of people coming through the doors. We found alot of goodies back then, had access to tons of sites as did other collectors. River diving was legal, too much change with these laws today. Too many dopeheads out their competing with ya, leaving big holes left open, selling it all on CL or feebay.

I have pieces I bought at that Gulfport show. And there are still a lot of great places around. The dopers are busy, I think

Yeah the pot patches are every where right now.:tongue3: We still have some good artifact and Civil War shows in the South East. But you all are right people are hunting and selling the stuff now. Go on e-bay and I cry when I hear the counties the stuff is from. I always cover other peoples holes. Old habits die hard.

as my buddy once said. ID BE PEE'D OFF IF I DIED AND NO ONE TOOK MY PERFECTLY GOOD PLASMA TV TO ENJOY AND JUST LET WASTE. thing is we aprreciate the artifacts deeply, WWAAAYYYYYY more than any archeaologist. i dont think that the native that died would mind if someone came by 1000s of years later and found the stuff and treasured it. the natives sure get mad now adays, but guess what boys u probly had no clue what they were till we told u.
