This hunt actually took place on January 21st, MLK Jr. Day. This was my first hunt ever, and I was fortunate enough to meet some members off of this forum that were able to take me out and teach me a thing or two. I didn't have my own metal detector yet, it was supposed to arrive on this day (it actually came right when I got home), but Jeffro let me use one of his extra ones. I didn't find any coins, but I did find a lot of "junk" and I learned a lot about Metal Detecting and hunting in General, it was definitely cool to learn about the history of the Areas we were to hunt, for example we checked out an old lot where a church used to be, trying to visualize the past and comparing it to the present was really neat. I had a blast, thanks again to Jeff, and Mike for taking me out. I cannot wait to head back out again, my backyard has been completely frozen so I haven't had an opportunity to hunt my own house yet. I am hoping that the rain will subside sometime this weekend and I will be able to head out to an old park I have been researching.

Here are some pictures of my finds. I think the coolest thing is the bladed looking object or the beavertail pulltab. Let me know what you all think.....

Ha!, nice finds - just wait till your first silver coin pops outta the ground. make sure you give this another solid try - dont let that detector get stuck in a closet. unfortunately, ha!, one of my first coins - first day no kidding was a silver 1/2 dollar right off and i couldnt put my detector down for several years - wore it out and bought a better one! i dont know beaches very well, but make sure you try yeard and wooded area too! good luck! ctyms

Nice first hunt and I think I speak for all MDs when I say you will learn to "love" pulltabs. lol

Welcome to the club. Please post often. We like to see what you find. Silver soon!

welcome to the club, you have found a good place here.

Welcome to T-Net. The good finds will be coming soon. Practice Practice Practice. If it is to cold, do some bench testing. Helps your learn your machine. HH

Welcome from the UK.

It should be called Trash Digging not treasure hunting & you are proof of that. If this hasn't put you off then your off to the right start. Plenty more where that came from. Learn the machine & dig everything & gold will follow.

No it didn't put me off at all, I really enjoyed all of it, digging that pot out of the ground was quite humorous, it sure would have been worth it if it was full of gold coins ;D

I have been messing with my new machine long enough, I want to actually get it out in the field. (I bought an Ace 250). it rained like crazy as soon as it subsides I am going outside with my headlamp ;D

Thank you all for the advice, I will look forward to posting my hunts in the future.

where is the trash? ;) I just see some old stuff like the tent stake. Glad to hear you had a good time and enjoyed .

Thank you for the ID on the tent stake, it is really heavy duty though, I couldn't imagine carrying that around with my tent. Let alone 4-6 of them :D

Glad to hear you had a good time and can't wait to get back out there again.
