My 2nd "Dandy Button" for the Year......Cleaned up w/Pic's.....

After all the rain yesterday I had to get out, went to the "Box Plate" site with Ty this morning.A few piece's of lead and some "whatsit's" later this thing pop's out....read's a solid +78/84 on the MXT,couldn't believe it was a Dandy....at first I thought it was a Copper until I turned it over.I guess I need some earlier map's now

It has some nice green patina on it but it also has a pretty good layer of "crud" too....any help on the clean-up would be appreciated.

Those flat buttons are circa 1775 plus ..........trust me I found a bunch of them, same type at a tavern site dated 1773. Depending on what was in the area at the time, and how long, prepare yourself for some colonial coppers and possibly some early American coins. Good luck................Rich

Joe,

I have had luck with using H. Peroxide. I would microwave some in a coffee mug for about a Minuit then drop the button in. It seemed to loosen much without damaging the piece. Hopes this helps.

Rich....This place I've been researching has already produced 2 Box Plate's and Eagle Button's and other goodie's from the CW....very surprised that this "Dandy" came out of there....Thinking more of a Tombac or later but never this.It didn't matter at the time and still doesn't  Thank's for the Reply and HH!!

NO spit. NO water!

Clean with a dry toothbrush--just brush the crust away. OR toothpick.

Good find!
