Thanks for posting you collection! It can teach you alot about ancient coins :) I have a few myself, one of which is "silvered" like yours, they are all roman or greek. Do you have any tips on cleaning them? from what i know you use olive oil soaks and a fine plastic pick...is this the way to do? any tips from an expert? ;D

Hi,
I saw this coin on another thread and didn't respond because I am unsure what it is. It is really hard to tell from the picture. Can you post a more detailed picture of the coin? As a guess, I am thinking it is a Barbarous Radiate imitating an AE antoniniannus of one of several emperors (ex. Tetricus, Tetricus II, Postumus...etc..etc.). What is the diameter of the coin?

Thanks,

Gunner

Gunner,

Are you in England? I'm at Menwith. If so, maybe we can do some hunting.

Hello j-5-0!
Unfortunately for me, I am in the United States. I would absolutely LOVE to go detecting in ex-Roman territory. It has always been a dream of mine. Do you find many Roman artifacts?

Gunner

Gunner,

I just started hunting last weekend, so I haven't found much yey. But, I live within a few miles of two towns founded by romans, so I'm really hoping that I do. I'm up in a valley that leads to one of the towns. Tomorrow, I'm heading to an old Aglo-Saxon/Viking crossroads site that had a market for a long time. Hopefully, it was there when the Romans were, too. There is also a roman road that crosses very near the site. Plan to hunt the roman road on Thurs, weather permitting. I'll post anything I find.

Are you in the Corps? I'm assuming, by your title, you are? I have a few Marines working for me. Coudn't ask for better troops.

Johnny

Good luck on your hunting trip! Please post anything you find here and I will try to ID it for you.

I am ex-Navy :).

Gunner

Thanks Gunner. I didn't get to do the site today, due to my wife car failure so I will do it tomorrow. I'll let you know if I find anything I think is roman. My landlord is pointing out sites for me now, so maybe I'll get some good hunting grounds.

Just lost my best sailor to a PCS move on Tuesday. A CTR2 heading to Bahrain. Wish him luck and God's grace.
