Trajan Plated/Fouree Denarius

Trajan "Fouree" Denarius. This is an ANCIENT plated forgery. I find these intriguing as the penatly for committing such an offense against the government was an excruciatingly painful death. In fact, archaeological evidence proves this. At the bottom of an old Roman well, below thousands of clay forgers molds, hacked bones from several human skeletons were found..... scary huh?

Julia Domna AR Antoninianus.

Julia Domna was the wife of Emperor Septimius Severus and the mother of Caracalla and Geta. She was known as being one of the smartest women in ancient times. Many historians attribute the success of Septimius Severus as emperor to Julia Domna as she is known to have been his top advisor on such matters. I would have loved to have met this lady. I find her fascinating =). Caracalla had his brother Geta killed and eventually he was murdered by Macrinus (his praetorian guard at the time). A grief stricken Julia Domna (after having lost both of her sons) went on a hunger strike which eventually took her life in AD 217.

This last colored picture of her makes me want to go back in time to be Septimius Severus ....Lovely Lady!!!

This coin must have been laying reverse side up exposed to the elements for several hundred years as the reverse is in rough shape. The obverse, however, is quite nice..
