Here are the updated pics of the "Model 1860". It took me a couple of days to clean it but I think it came out pretty good. After I cleaned it I picked it up and held it. WOW ;D what a feeling. It is incredible to think that the last person to hold this sword was 140 years ago and they were fighting in the Civil War. It is an awesome feeling being able to hold a peice of history like this...

The first two shots are the before, the next two are actual color of the sword cleaned, the whole shot looks all gold but it is just the lighting. (one day I will get good at photography)

A great find! A good lesson to all to go for the overload signals...you never know!

Really awesome find.

That is the first sword I ever seen come up on a website. That is a very rare find. I wonder if any more lie in the area. The size of that thing to would have made it hard for it to sink below the surface. It was just basically hidden under 150 yrs of sediment and leaves.

I'm curious about something. What would cause a soldier to abandon a sword like this? Also, why are CW buckles occasionally found while metal detecting? What were the circumstances that would cause a soldier to lose a buckle. Being female, this is just something I am curious about.

Awesome nice recovery. :icon_pirat:

That is so cool, I would have that sittin out in my house on display. Just like you are I'm sure. NICE!

Wow I have been off the net for a couple of weeks and just seen this. Holy smokes what a relic hunters dream!!!!!!!! I am extremely jealous. :icon_pirat:

is there engraving at the base of the blade like on the pics of the other sword website?

Digging that beauty is worth losing a couple of toes over. congrads

Congrats on that sword! It is a beauty and most hard to find these days.

Lamont that is a nice sword , you must be very proud. I am a new treasure hunter and dream of a find like yours someday. I have a bounty hunter ,it cost a lot but i think it will be worth it . So far the only thing I have found is a horseshoe which I uncovered with my roto tiller. And like you I wish there was a book with it to tell how it got there and such. Keep up the great work and continue to share you finds. I selected this one from the banner.

Gemee...most swords were lost in battle, with the sword either being knocked out of the soldiers hands or dropped when the soldier fell. They were not "abandonded" for during a war a sword would be that soldiers prized possession and would not be given up easily. Same goes for the buckles for the last thing a soldier would wanna do is to charge into battle with one hand holding up his pants...

Very Very nice!!! Congrats on the banner also it is well deserved,a relic hunters dream find for sure!!!
