Oh what a weekend! My buddy Trevor (trevmma) and I took a half day from work last Friday and headed down to Kentucky again. We walked about 4 fields on one site Friday, camped out in my car then walked about 4 sites on Saturday.

I got a tip from a co-worker about some land I should check out near him. So we we’re driving to this friend’s field on Saturday afternoon, sorta wrapping up the trip. To be honest, I was pretty worn out from all the walking and crappy nights’ sleep in my car, but when we saw this washed out field on the top of a rolling hill we got a good vibe about. To add to our vibe, there was a farmer was in the next field over mowing and bailing tall grass of some sort. On a whim, I pulled up and asked him if he owns the land in the field over and if it’s okay to walk it. His reply was “Sure, I lease that land, but you ain’t gonna find any arrowheads in that field.”. We thanked him and when I was backing out to head to the field I saw his workers snickering at us a bit. Clearly, they thought we were crazy for walking this field.

No less than 20 feet into the field we came across flakes. I wasn’t in the field for 3 minutes before I found a broken tip. In all, we found about 3 brokes and a couple hafted scrapers. It was on our way back to the car when I came across my best find to date. I was walking along the edge of the field looking up toward the top of the hill. Trevor was about 100 feet away. I spotted a grayish piece of flint about 15 feet away and about the size of a half dollar coin. It was sitting at an angle and only have was exposed. I walked up on it, bent down and noticed the side notch and immediately yelled “KILLER” to Trevor. He came running over and the rest is history.

Here’s a 16 minute video on youtube of the entire weekend. It’s really silly in part, but you can fast forward to around the 9 minute mark if you don’t want sit through it all.

I’ve also posted a cleaned up video here:

Can anyone comment on the flint type or style? I’ve heard everything from Big Sandy, Newton Falls and Intrusive Mound… The base is slightly ground and the edges are razor sharp. It measures 2 13/16” and I can’t find a single ding. I know it’s not the biggest or best find out there, but to find it in a plowed field in this condition AMAZES me.

Also, I found my first lost lake (broken in half, missing an ear and massive heart breaker) and my 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] pestle. Check the video for the finds!
I’ve attached more pics below including all our finds.

Thanks in advance and happy hunting!

Shane

super hunting guys, great post, was wondering if you went and rubbed that in the farmers face?

:tongue3: Unfortunately, he was done working in that field for the day when we started heading back to the street. We couldn't find him, but there's always next time!

Shane, because of the punch style notching and the ground base I would say it's an Archaic piece and it sure looks like a Thebes to me. As for material. I'm not real sure but it looks like it could be Attica Chert or what is more commonly called Indiana Green.

Hopefully Neanderthal will come along and give us a better idea. He is a lot better on materials.

Killer find though. You guys have really hit the mother load in those fields.

Nice find! Material kinda looks like 4 mile creek chert, congrats.

My first thought is that it's a Newton Falls point. I think that would be in-area for where you found it. It does have a bit of an intrusive mound look to it but not enough to shy away from early archaic. I think it's almost certainly early archaic. That's really a great find. We all find lots of good points but one's like that don't come around too often.

Congrats.
