My brothers 2 cent piece.

My brother found this 1864 2 cent piece right behind first base in a baseball field near my house. He was using a Garrett 550.

Yeah, fairly good detail on it yet. It was quite a shock to find that in a baseball field.

I was thinking the same thing because it was only like 2-3 inches deep.

I "sort of" keep track of the ones posted since I found one. (same year, but much worse)

Don't discount what you think may be newer ballfields. I've dug so many 1800's coins out of "newer" ballfields it's not funny. Baseball was very popular in the 1800's. Over time, old coins can move up towards the ground's surface.
Congrats to your brother on the nice 2-center.

That was the only coin we found on the actual field...outside the field produced a merc and some wheaties.
