My coolest jasper knife...

I found this knife many years ago. A heartbreaker with the missing chips, but I love the jasper material with the agate inclusion. It pays to know some ranchers, and have access to huge amounts of acreage

Very nice knife, outstanding workmanship. When I see these types of artifacts it always makes me wonder what the lives of those persons using it was really like? I like to think they did OK.

Id like to see where the chips that are missing could be part of the knife called a spokeshave and made that way. I find them once in a while, sure is a very nice looking material.

those notches look purposeful to me, looks like a swiss army knife style.

The one "chip' looks like a hard spot inclusion in the material, and has probably been there since manufacturing. I think that is the best artifact posted on here this year..........nice save.

What a difference the daylight makes .... those quartz veins running thru it are beautiful, if you hold it up to the sun is it translucent?

That thing is incredibly cool! I like seeing the stuff you find, I know you are in Idaho and I'm in Montana, but I consider Challis "close" to me when it comes to your artifacts. A lot of the pieces you have posted look like the same material and style that I find in Southwest Montana. There is a place here where that type of jasper was "mined" for thousands of years. You can still see the "pits" (hundreds of them). They used to have a historic sign on the road close by, but they have taken it down, and never put another up. It would really be cool to see this one up close in person!
