Got up early this morning to hit a new permission. The house turned out to be a bust as well as two more permissions after that.

Finally, house number 4, built in 1955 gave me the signals i was looking for. At about 3 inches off the front sidewalk i got a clear high tone with numbers indicating a possible quarter. Lifting the coil proved it was not a can and pinpointing it indicated it was pretty deep. I was expecting to dig about 7 inches but wound up digging this token at 10.

Its a Carolina Baseball League game schedule token with all the dates and places they were to play.
Unfortunately, not all the games were played due to WW1
This one is for the Greensboro patriots

I found this picture on a worthpoint link.
This token is from the same year but different team.

The back side of the token is an advertisement for 5 cent El-REES-So cigars.

The middle of the token says 10 Cent quality 5 cent Price.

After a little research...i found that El-Rees-So was founded in 1915 and made right here in Greensboro.
It had 300 employees by 1917 and is today a very well known brand of cigar.
I found this token only a few blocks from where the Cigar factory once stood.

Here is a picture of the factory in 1917

By far, this is my favorite token to date!

Of course i found the usual junk...an old pocket watch case, some clad, a few wheat pennies and a bent Lead seal.

HH everyone and see you on the next hunt!

I agree! I would love to find a photo of the 1917 Greensboro patriots team to add to the display i am making for this token.

Very unique token, well done!

Whatโ€™s your theory on why the first 3 houses were busts? Already hit before or maybe the yards have been altered too much?

The first house had a very small front yard and only gave up a few shallow wheat pennies. The back yard was saturated with junk cars and parts making it impossible to search. The second yard had very loose soil. It was so loose i could actually sink and leave foot steps in some areas. I found a few newer pennies at 9 and 10 inches. Not sure what was going on with that yard.

The third yard may have been worked before. At least the front yard may have been worked. It had no high or mid tones, not even a pull tab. The back yard had super high grass making it impossible to find anything deep. I found a couple quarters just under the grass in the back yard and gave up. I may go back and mow the yard later. It has potential with a giant oak tree begging to be hit!

Tokens are my favorite. The research possibilities are endless, unlike a simple date and mint mark of a coin.
Congrats

Cool, thanks for the info! I always wonder what happened before I got there when a site doesn't produce the way I thought it would. I feel like my private yard hit rate is lower than other folks. Depending on my area maybe 1/3 or 1/4 yield silver. Yards are too small and too likely to have been reconfigured here in Seattle I think.
