I got out for a couple hours today to a site that had been hunted extensively but it's a huge site which contains several cellar holes. The site was a large community consisting of French, British and even a couple Americans! The community did not last past the start of the 1800s so the vast majority of the finds date to this time.

Finds today were a nice, near complete barrel tap, a 1749 George II Farthing and a strung bugle badge which has yet to be identified. I'm confident that it dates to the late 1700s but there are no markings so difficult to say for sure. Any ideas?

Thanks Tinpan...some quick research tells me that a Light Infantry regiment was formed on this site in 1770 so it could very well date to then.

British used the term "Light Infantry" Colonials used the term "Rifles"

Must have been a Brit who wrote the book I found! ;D

Very nice military relic, i'd be dancing all the way back home if I found something like that. If I had to guess, i'd say it looks to be late 1700s. What you need to do now is go back and find some other military relics to go with it!.

I really like the barrel tap. I agree, they are highly underrated.

Sweet find there Romeo....not that I'm an expert but it does point to around the late 1700's....
Good to see your digging now, the young one must be on the move now.. Hope to have my new machine sometime next week..

I love the farthing, but that tap isn't too bad either. :headbang: You and Patch better get your dig on. The PA bros. are on the move as well. ;D

Nice cap badge but I like the barrel tap as well! HH, Mike

I rather like that tap. Kind of makes you wonder how many were served from it before it hit the trash.

I've got a decent little collection of taps and pieces...but none complete. I'm always happy to dig one!

I wish the farthing was a little better but it is what it is. I can make out the date so I may try cleaning it...couldn't make it any worse. The Farthing came from an area on the site dubbed the Geo. II Field...a couple dozen George II coppers, a French billon and a Spanish cob were all found here. It's getting pretty quiet but there always seems to be "one more coin" here.
