I was just telling my hunting bud that the best finds come from the least likely locations...well, that certainly was the case today!

Got onto a couple new sites with the first being a total bust. Second site looked like a trash pit but the second target out was the massive marked crotal bell so I had some hope. Pulled a lot of junk out then eyeballed a glint of silver in the dirt. I thought for sure it was a modern hood ornament or something like that so I was shocked and thrilled to pull this out of the ground.

Sterling silver cap badge! Looks like it dates to 1929 if I'm reading the hallmarks right. This field has been plowed many times so it's a wonder that the badge is intact...even has the hook on the back!

So pleased with this find...certainly my find of the year!

WOW amazing finds! The badge is super cool and so if that crotal bell !

Congrats on some great finds Romeo. I always like it when you can see the finds on the surface, like your badge was. That is a great looking piece.

That is a splendid hat badge but it screams WW1 to me. Not sure about those hallmarks either. I think it’s just how Ellis Bros. marked their maker mark. If they were absorbed by Birks in ‘28, I don’t think they would have been making these in ‘29? Post-Great War was also an extended period of demobilization until WW2 which doesn’t mean some officer didn’t get a silver cap badge but could make it less likely.

The 48th is out of Toronto. How far from home base was this found?

Yes, I think you're right on that....plus the badge is a WWI design. Have to do a little more research to get an accurate date.
