Umm yea, I have yet to learn how to discriminate by sounds and so forth. I guess when you live on a landfill, this is what you can expect most of the time? LOLOL these are today's finds. Everything bleeps and sounds off so I am not quite sure how to eliminate sounds of garbage. The good news is I did find a penny but not with my metal detector, but because I saw something shiny on the side of the road :) Is all my junk aluminum? Most everything was 6" or deeper in one case. That metal pull tab lid was about 8" down or more.

Anyway, I figured I should show of my mad skills of finding garbage to ya'll :) Thanks for looking!

That's how we all start out, digging garbage. 10 years from now, you'll still dig garbage. Digging garbage means you'll find little treasures other people missed!

It only gets better! Thanks for sharing...

Dig it all and get it all. I rarely eliminate anything but iron since I hunt in an area where nothing of value is iron. I've left a hole and went back at it and pulled out a silver ring and a penny in the same scoop. Pocket dump I almost thought was a bottle cap.

I dig everything!!! I'm surprised that's all the trash you found. I usually have a couple of pounds of trash in a few hours.

Wow, your finds are treasure next to mine:laughing7:

Kidding..........well, not really. I'm just going to keep at it until I find something good.

Hahaha well I knew you all would be impressed with my awesome finds! :P I only played in a very small spot in my yard. My house used to house boys from the Air Force in the 70's and a ground level deck was recently torn up. That detector just blips, bleeps, and spews all sorts of noises. I am just digging up everything trying to obtain that gut feel or wha-have-ya. :) I am definitely hooked though, even with these junk items. It makes the time go by and gets me outside more often then my damned telescope does! Weather doesn't seem to be much of a determining factor for me when it comes to metal detecting :)

Keep at it !! We all dig trash..it's a way of life, and part of the hobby..heck-if it was easy EVERYBODY would be doing it..thanks for sharing..it'l get better!...ddf

Hahaha I am a methodical digger and slow and Zen like :) Today I found that digging in the rocks had me side tracked because, well, I LOVE rocks!

when I first started, I found enough nails to build a house

Your digging what many others would also. Hey, its round its metal, what else you expect . l.o.l. The rectangular pieces and lid too .After years of digging, those electrical connectors must still be dug. You're on track to make exciting recoveries. The lid and other big pieces,if you raise your coil upward away from them will continue announcing them farther than from for example the button. But not digging could have meant leaving a pile of coins. The button has a narrower area of swing that it sounds off in and the lid sounds through a larger part of swing.(in theory). The nut and electrical connector are more towards steel than aluminum. Maybe the folded pieces as well. You get into scrap trim pieces off a metal roof they drive you to digging too as they ring up great. Its all good. Happy Hunting.

Holy CRAP!

I've been looking for a nut just like that one for about 4 years now- and you find it right away.

So, I thought that was just pure luck until I saw where you got an electrical connection, and the crimp style at that! You have some precious metal there, and it's not even bent. I'd be willing to bet that it would clean up really nice. Put a little polish to it and she will look good as new.

And then I've got to really wonder what your complaint is about.

I've found thousands of pull tabs, but never have I been lucky enough to find one with the lid still attached. My gosh, the amount of luck you have.

The aluminum pieces appear to have a part number to them which increases the value tenfold, at the very least.

...and one day you are going to be standing around after Thanksgiving and your going to pop a button off of your shirt. And what do ya know- you just happen to have a coveted and very rare BUCKLEY 4 hole button. One of the rarest around-

You certainly have a magic touch for finding the great stuff.

Keep up the good work!

It's good Karma to remove the garbage. The finds will come soon! :) Don't give up!

In the last 4 months of digging I have found four 5 gallon spackle pails of scrap so don't be discouraged . One of those junk signals is gonna be good sooner or later .

Don't be discouraged. It takes time. All it takes is one nice find and you'll be hooked. Good luck keep swinging that coil.

yep, it is easy to get discouraged when you see all of the posts of the cool awesome stuff, the reality is as several have already stated, what sometimes seems like tons of trash is found. I bet some of these guys/ladies have dug enough over the years to fill up the back of a truck... at least it may feel like it. I had read or hear somewhere where the average is like 300 pull tabs for every ring, I am sure that I have done that several times but as they all say, it has to be there first to find it. don't give up and you will find a surprise soon enough... I hope! LOL

Keep digging, plant some coins in the yard to see the numbers and the sound they make, and keep digging.

Keep digging the pull-tabs & maybe after 1000 you will get a gold ring. I've said it many times on here, we are 'Trash Diggers' not 'Treasure Hunters'. Therefore, when you are used to digging lots of trash the treasure will come. Also the more you dig the more you will understand what your machine/sounds are telling you.

Don't be discouraged by "garbage". My silver compact case from the 1930s is worth about $10 in it's condition. Knowing it's 70+ years old, from my grand father's generation is priceless.

Wear headphones. The built-in speaker is not good for hearing the slightly different sounds.

On my Ace 350: low sound = probably iron, medium sound probably coin or aluminum. High sound = I don't know yet, haven't gotten one.

You know your an MD'er when you never have to "buy" any type of metal from Home Depot again, because you have your "own" dug supply !!!!

Welcome aboard!

The "treasures" they are a coming!!!!

Here's an added incentive- pull tabs, can be used to off set hangers in your closet creating more space. Just slip one end over the hook (metal hangers) of a hanger then hang another on the other end of the pull tab. Who knew! Right?:dontknow::dontknow: we may be sitting on a gold mine! :laughing7:

The lowly pull tabs day has come !!! Shine little pull tab, shine!!!!
