Umm yea, I have yet to learn how to discriminate by sounds and so forth. I guess when you live on a landfill, this is what you can expect most of the time? LOLOL these are today's finds. Everything bleeps and sounds off so I am not quite sure how to eliminate sounds of garbage. The good news is I did find a penny but not with my metal detector, but because I saw something shiny on the side of the road :) Is all my junk aluminum? Most everything was 6" or deeper in one case. That metal pull tab lid was about 8" down or more.

Anyway, I figured I should show of my mad skills of finding garbage to ya'll :) Thanks for looking!

Holy CRAP!

I've been looking for a nut just like that one for about 4 years now- and you find it right away.

So, I thought that was just pure luck until I saw where you got an electrical connection, and the crimp style at that! You have some precious metal there, and it's not even bent. I'd be willing to bet that it would clean up really nice. Put a little polish to it and she will look good as new.

And then I've got to really wonder what your complaint is about.

I've found thousands of pull tabs, but never have I been lucky enough to find one with the lid still attached. My gosh, the amount of luck you have.

The aluminum pieces appear to have a part number to them which increases the value tenfold, at the very least.

...and one day you are going to be standing around after Thanksgiving and your going to pop a button off of your shirt. And what do ya know- you just happen to have a coveted and very rare BUCKLEY 4 hole button. One of the rarest around-

You certainly have a magic touch for finding the great stuff.

Keep up the good work!

My goodness you are a positive ball of energy! Love it! Do you need this nut for anything? :)

Awe I didn't mean to come off as if I was bummed out by my garbage. I am definitely hooked. That was my first day with my metal detector and I used it in my yard hahahahaha. :) I am VERY anxious to get onto a beach. You people are all so very nice and supportive, and I just want to clarify that in no way am I discouraged :) I just cannot wait to show off today's garbage! :)

We know your just excited about finding stuff.

I know exactly what you mean when you say it's a land fill where you are detecting, the city here used the old garbage furnace clean out for actually land fill, so my detector never shuts up! I am so used to the noise that when I detected my sons yard yesterday I kept checking the detector because the detector was sooo quiet! The yard was so clean = metal free I could actually ground balance with no problem!

it's all treasure! we all bring home this kind of treasure almost every hunt. Think of yourself as a conservator of the earth. We make an area cleaner, safer and better looking by removing garbage. In the process hopefully we find a little nugget of goodness (or gold, silver, coins etc). sometime we save a piece of history. Win Win Win. Cheers! I get excited every time I'm digging a target. What an addiction and one I'm not willing to give up. (my family thinks I need an intervention. hahaha

YES! I need it to go with the bolt I'm looking for. It needs to be 1 3/4" long, stainless steel. Then I can finally get that engine running again.

I STARTED DETECTING AT AGE 12 - 1975
MY FIRST YEAR WAS HORRIBLE - I'D GO OUT WITH OLDER GUYS AND THEY'D BE FINDING SILVER COINS ALL OVER
AT END OF MOST DAYS I'D HAVE 1 CLAD DIME AND SOME PULLTABS - ALMOST GAVE IT UP
THEN I DECIDED TO WORK MY YARD - HOUSE WAS BUILT IN THE 40s - I STARTED FINDING ALL KINDS OF COINS
SILVER - EVEN A LARGE CENT (FOUND OUT LAND WAS OLD FARM IN THE 1800s)
I HONED MY SKILLS - LOOK AT ME NOW

AND THATS FROM MOSTLY THE LAST 15 YRS

SO HOPEFULLY IF YOU STICK WITH IT - IT WILL COME
GOOD LUCK

three things to remember

1. --- you WILL learn to tell the good sound / numbers from trash over time .
2. --- there is no magic machine * --there are however skilled users -- which takes time to become one -- one has to understand that these machines work off of "electrical conductivity" --how much disturbance does the metal object the machine has "found" in its coil's electrical field --different metals disturb it to different levels by size and metal make up * sadly some metals and size combo's mimic one another -- exsample --nickels . pull tabs and small gold objects ---- modern zinc cents and old indain head cents
3.--- even "good high dollar" machines are not perfect (all machines "guess" to some degree at what metal they have found and its depth--some are better guessers than others , some are quite complex and costly as well)--if you are looking for gold --you will dig some pull tabs

Yip I almost always have lots of garbage but just keep cleaning out the ground and research the area at different angles there's always be more good stuff u missed. Keep digging and go where people do active things.
Happy hunting :)

Do you really need the nut? Without looking at your face and hearing your tone, I cannot tell if you are joking or not :P I will certainly send it to you if you really need it LOL.

Look out he will be needing batteries next L.o.l..

Hey, if you are pulling out small metal like that nut, you are on the right track.
You'll start getting the good stuff under your coil, soon enough.
