I had a a lot going on this weekend so I got up early on Sunday to get a couple hours of me time in. I went back to the spot where I dug the beautiful 1903 Barber dime at last week. I only found one keeper but it's my first 1800's quarter and barely made it with a worn 1899s Barber! I was excited to keep the first for me streak alive after finding my first Capped Bust Half Dime last week as well.

Late yesterday evening after some rain I bartered some time to go out and swing again in trade for picking up a pizza on the way back home. I got the better end of that deal. I went back to a big spot that I've dug a few Mercs at. I was hoping for any silver coin for what little time I had. Right at dark I manged to get over a nice signal and it was a 58 Rosie, so I was happy my hunt was a success. I hunted a little more and got a great signal that read like a silver half on the Etrac. Well the deeper I dug I started to realize this was going to be trash and sure enough it was a big smashed can. I went on about 20 feet in the same row and got another great silver half signal and thought I had found a trash pit. By now its pitch black out and I'm digging blind. The signal was still strong down about 7". I dug another big plug out with my shovel past that and scooped the loose soil out of the hole. I could see the shine of BIG silver with what little light I had. I couldn't believe I dug a half and after getting my phone's light out I was in shock it was a Barber Half! It has been about 25 years since I dug my first and only one and I have been really wanting to dig another. I tried to get some pictures of it there in the dark and I had to pull myself away to hold up my end of the bargain with my family. I didn't do any field cleaning and it was killing me to get home so I could get it cleaned up and see what I had. After getting it washed up it turns out to be a beautiful 1911D and I can't get over the condition and can't believe I didn't run the business end of my shovel right across that big old coin.

I was just talking to my buddy on Sunday about how long it's been for both of us to dig a Barber Half. I was thrilled to send him photos of this one and tell him about digging this one out in the dark! You never know with this hobby the crazy luck you will have from one month to the next. It sure is a thrill when everything lines up and you get a few nice keepers! HH-David

I hear Barbers are great. Yours look spectacular. Congratulations.....Someday...I keep hoping. and swinging, and wondering...

Wow man, that's incredible! Congrats on digging two hard to find Barbers in the same hunt.

Thanks J.Cache! These were found on two different days on different sites. The quarter was on Sunday morning and the half was Monday night.

You have been on a Barber binge, keep it up! You have also got a Barber trifecta - half, quarter, dime - in less than a week. I got it in 2016, but it took me most of the year.

Thanks Steve! Seems like I've been on a nice lucky streak. I don't won't to get back to reality anytime soon!

That's a beautiful collection of coins Mr. Sooper Dave! Congrats on a great hunt. Just found my first Barber quarter the other day...any 1800's silver is always welcome, but 1800's silver quarter , now that's special.

Thanks Silvermonkey! Congrats on your Barber quarter! You're right it's always a thrill to get 1800's silver!

Got any of that pizza left?

Oh, cool silver.

Sorry the kids finished it off tonight. Next time I will get enough for everyone...

Fantastic hunt with those big barbers showing up. Congrats on scoring a very nice condition Barber Half Dollar. Fine looking example of a great coin design. Well done!:headbang:

I hope you get your first Barber soon! The XLT is a fantastic machine to find coins with if you're still swinging it? I found some nice Barbers with mine over the years including my first Barber Half. You'll get yours soon and it will be something you never forget!

Congratulations!!! I found my first Barber Half this last Sunday a 1900-O half. What a great feeling it is. Mine has great details like yours except unfortunately mine had some graffiti on it. Some 1900 kid. Lol
