I sure had a nice surprise when I stopped @ a bank on my way home from work on Friday. I was in the drive-thru and I asked for any half dollars and the teller told me no one had any halves but they had one big dollar coin. I almost didn't buy it but I said ahhhh.......I guess since I'm here I might as well get it (thinking it would just be another clad Ike). The teller put the coin in a tapped envelope so I didn't even realize what I had till I was driving down the road a minute or so later....and I couldn't believe what I saw.....my first circulated ASE. A 1 oz. silver bullion coin bought @ "face value" for $1?

It's truly amazing how clueless people are about real money. They would rather have a worthless piece of fiat currency that is nothing more than a non-interest bearing debt note from a country that is not only broke but the largest debtor nation in the history of the world than an ounce of pure silver which is REAL money. Well once again other people's ignorance and loss is my gain. :happy3:

Beautiful coin! You are right about most people not having any idea about coins. As you said, there loss....

MU

You win.

Excellent.

We need to get a set of merit badges for coin roll huntings. This would definitely be one of the badges.

Woah!!! That is an awesome score!

Maybe someday... haha

That is Awesome, I always ask for the big old dollars just in case they hand me something like this. Super score! HH, Maverick.

Awesome score! Something I'm sure all of us dream about!

yeah I know other CRHers have posted finding Silver Eagles but I never thought I'd ever find one myself. But I have found other silver dollar coins in the past. My best silver dollar score was in April 2011 when I was at another bank asking for halves and once again reluctantly bought some big dollar coins the teller told me they had thinking once again they were just more clad Ikes. I was sure surprised then as well when I realized I was buying real silver dollar coins...4 Morgans: 1878, 1878S, 1899, and an 1901O. The 1899 is a better date with a mintage of only 330,000 and I believe grades about Fine and I think lists for as much as $130 in this condition. I never posted a pic of that score on here before so I thought I'd go ahead and show a pic of the 1899 now. My best single coin silver @ face score....over 100 x fv. :)

Although I just remembered I have found a couple of really nice XF/XF+ '50D nic's that might be worth as much as $5 or so, so those would be about 100 x fv as well.....although those aren't silver but they were sure sweet finds as well. :)
