(Ace 250) Last night In a small field that I found some other old coins I found my first Buffalo nickle.
I soaked it in Worcestershire and every hour took a Q-tip to it. Cleaned up pretty good but I think there is more crusty material on it. I can see in some spots some really shiny metal. Any other suggestions on how to clean this? Under a 10X eye I can barely see 1919.

Congrats on the great first!!!

It looks pretty good. More soaking will get rid of the rest of the red, but nickels come up hopelessly pitted.

To speed up the cleaning on your next one, heat the WC sauce in the microwave, then use a toothbrush after each soak.

When you're done, after a good rinse you can polish them up with a little melted beeswax if you want.

After all that, mine still seem to darken with time.

Anyway, nice find!
