I was not expecting this to pop out on the very first bleep of the hunt. My first civil war anything. I live in upstate NY and things like this just don't happen everyday. Pics to come shortly.

I am no expert but it looks earlier than the usual two piece buttons I have seen. It looks more like an 1812 ish button. Lets see what other folks have to offer.

I believe Tommy to quite right on that button ,it was produced before the Civil war.

Nice find, those are pretty buttons, but they are 1820s NY militia buttons.
