My first coin with my metal detector

I started metal detecting this year. Finally found a coin. A 1940 something?? Wheat penny. Any tips on cleaning it up. It's really corroded.

Amazingly, my first was in my yard - but didn't know that digging a "plug", kills that patch of grass. Use a green hinge/trapdoor lid, to search for your target - a pinpointer helps immensely...!
