So first off, anyone that knows me will know my pictures are usually blurry. But I found that using a scanner instead of a digital camera works 10X better.

I live on a farm and found this dime in the middle of the field on a hill. Pulling it out it looked like a can tab, but after I brushed it off, OMG it was my first real treasure. 1936

I haven't fully cleaned it yet as you can see in the picture. It's perfectly mint condition, no damage at all. Bright and shiny. Anyone know what these are worth?

BY THE WAY the scanner chopped off part of the picture, I tried it twice and same thing. But at least the front came out good. Except having to rotate the picture.

Nice find!Mercs are sweet. It is only worth a few bucks, but you don't care because you are never going to sell it.Many more to come!

mercs are just one of the prettiest coins you'll ever come out of the ground...always fun!

I DID sell my mercs and other dug silver, paid for THREE new coils to keep huntin'. Love a hobby that actually pays for itself.

Curious why this fellow got lost so far out in the field?

I've been diggin for a LONG time...it never gets old to see the frosty white come out of the ground. ;D

Congrats!

That first Merc is a great feelin.

That 1st Barber dime is even better.

How much were your mercs worth? I am hoping a far amount.

I cleaned it up and it shines really bright silver. So amazing.

Not sure why it was out in the field, but hey must be more.

Congrats on your first merc!! It's a beauty too, very nice wtg

I sold off a whole pile of silver a while ago, by the roll...got $11 per $1 US face. So one dime worth $1.10, unless you got key dates or something.

Maybe I could've held out for a higher price in the future, BUT equipment in SAD, SAD shape...coils pretty badly beat up. So now I get to keep huntin' with no out of pocket cost on equipment.

I did save my gold rings though :-) When trusty IDX finally buys the farm, I've got enough to replace it completely...but no need yet, still goin' strong.

Very nice coin..Those winged liberty's are the best...as far as value..the red book says from around 1.40 to 2.50....Still, it's your first and probably priceless..Keep at it and get some more.

It is not unusual to find coins in a farm field. The farmer could have dropped it or some kid playing in the crop.

I know here in New Jersey a lot of the fields were fertilized with sewage from New York City during the late 1800s and early 1900s. So any coins dropped in the NY toilet found their way to our NJ fields. These fields have been hunted to death but there is always more to be found. I pulled a nice gold pocket watch out of a field this year and I've seen some nice seated coins including a seated half and a bust dime that were found recently.

I love hunting old farms.

Coinshooter, Very nice Merc! Congrats on your first. Word of the wise though. Do not clean or polish any of the silver coins you wish to sell. Simply rinse them under water. Polishing is ok if your going to keep them but it will decrease the value greatly.

wowie B.

Sexy find! I still havent found a merc. COngrats on the lovely winged headed lady dime!!!!!!

I used soft shrub to clean it, everything cleaned up intact and is bright silver. I hope it didn't lose value.
