Got out for a couple of hours this afternoon. I went to an old house that has a huge yard that I have been wanting to try for a while. I got permission to go and headed straight to the front yard. I made a pass down the sidewalk and found a couple of old wheaties. Close to the road I got a great signal that came in like a deep Indian, dug me a deep plug and saw that awesome sight of a Minie Ball, but this one is the bigger .69 caliber. Before you know it I was digging one after another from a small area. One I dug was an Enfield with an "L" stamped inside the base and dug some .58 calibers as well. I have dug a few CW bullets but it is still an awesome thrill to see these in the dirt. In between the bullets I was digging a few clad coins and got a 12-46 and thought it would be another deep clad quarter, I was excited to see silver and was a nice Barber. I did not know it had a mint mark until I was taking photos and I was very happy to see the little "O". It turned out to be an awesome afternoon for relics and silver. HH David

Nice minis, and great dime. Gotta love the O's

"L" base marked Enfields are certainly not found very often. You had a very good day. WTG & HH, Quindy.

Those are awesome! HH!

For those who may not know it,(such as myself) the "O" mint-mark stands for New "O"rleans...
(GOOGLE) is my friend.

very nice finds and excellent job on the close up pics

Thanks for all the comments! Thanks fishkiller41 for sharing the info on the New Orleans Mint using the "O" on the coins! I forgot to put that in my post. :icon_thumright:

What a great collection of lead! I second the compliments on your pics. I usually just have my IPod touch with me, and it doesn't do great at close ups. This would certainly be a favorite hunt for me had I made these great finds. Keep sharing with us.

Thanks Old Dude! I love to dig anything from the Civil War. I get goosebumps every time I see that lead in the dirt. It's so amazing to think the last person to touch these bullets was a soldier in the war 150 years ago! You just can't get closer to the history than that!

I try to take good pictures to document my finds. Having a lot of light is a big help for a decent photo. HH David
