Well with all my time spend lately listening for pasted over nickel signals. I knew it wouldn't be long, got my first shield nickel yesterday. I believe it's 1868 with my 30X loop I can see 186 and in 66 & 67 it had rays between the stars this one doesn't also in 1868 28million were minted. I was going to wait to post a pic until after I cleaned it but I think it looked better before. I'm no expert but it seems to me that the co# is the important one on old nickels if the co is jumping 10-13 I don't care if the FE is 20 or 17 etc as long as it's larger than the co# Almost always when it is any lower than 12 on the FE (10 -12 11-12) it's junk anyone else agree?

congrats on your nickel find since getting my e trac i have not found any nickels they all turn out to be pulltabs so i mostly ignore them good find dennis

Congrats on that first! Bigger congrats on beating the heat to get it!

Congratulations! I found the same year (1868) as yours about a week after I got my E-Trac last year. It was a solid 12-13. It is my oldest coin to date.
