I went back to the school where I found the silver 1909 medal for about an hour last night and I only found three coins. BUT they were 2 silver quarters (1936,1944) and a nice Barber dime (1912D). The problem is right after I found the dime a security guard rolls up in a golf cart and says, "Can I help you"? Yeah....he threw me out. So I guess I have to find a new spot. It's killing me though because I only searched a very small spot at this large school and I know there is a TON of good stuff still there.

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the head honcho at the private school and he granted me and my father permission to metal detect on the school grounds. I was very surprised I thought he was definitely going to say "no". I guess it does pay to ask. We're heading back there this evening. I'll let you know what we find. YEAH!

Re: My first silver coins!

Contact the school today and speak to the principal....Ask permission. I am sure they would allow you to detect there. Explain that you are a professional and will ensure that the holes are properly filled....Let us know how you make out.

Good luck

Re: My first silver coins!

Nice! It's frustrating to know more is out there and people don't understand what you're doing and that you aren't harming anything or anyone.

Re: My first silver coins!

I agree, contact the school and ask if you can get permission!! Congrats on three silvers!!

Re: My first silver coins!

I'll definitely take everyone's advice and see if I can get permission. I'll report back to let you know how I made out. I can't say I'm too optimistic. This is a fancy private school and I can't see them giving some schmo like me permission to dig holes on their precious turf. It can't hurt to ask though.

Re: My first silver coins!

Really nice finds joe!
Ask, it's not hard, all they can say is yes or no.
At least you'll know..

Keep safe..

Was the security guard armed? ;D ;)
Just kidding.

Sure you will find other locations.

Great finds with the silver! The key there is that it is a private school so I am not surprised the security guard approached you. He was doing his job. Glad you were able to get permission, good luck!
