.... was actually in a box of nickels. I live in Canada so the only silver nickels were minted 1921 and under and are smaller than the normal nickel which make then impossible to find. I found a 1968 .500 silver dime my first silver coin ever found coin roll hunting!(I'm only 13). I have found dimes in nickel rolls but I never thought I would find my first silver coin in one. Here are the results of the box:

Canada U.S

59 4 57d 2
58 2 54 1
57 2 53 1
56 1 49 1
55 1 46 1
54 1 46d 1
53 3 42 1
50 2 41 1
47 3
45 1
42 1
41 1

and the 1968 .500 silver dime :hello2:

Congrats on the silver find!!! I am from the United States, but have a few canadian silvers as well! Hope your CRH hobby brings you lots of silver!

awesome find! very unexpected! PS you said youre only 13 after you said it was your first silver...but age has nothing to do with it! if someone has convinced you that youre young, and probably cant accomplish very much, dont listen to them! dont give in to low self esteem! keep it up and hh!

First, congratulations on your first silver find! I started coin roll hunting when I was 13 (that was a long time ago), too. Second, not all 1942 US nickels are silver. The change was made part way through the year. Third, just because Canada's silver 5 cent piece was very small and issued prior to 1922 doesn't mean that you won't get one in a roll. I know because I have. Many years ago, I got a 1918 Canadian silver 5 cent in a roll of cents, so it can happen. Keep at it and you'll be amazed at what you can find out there.

Not all 1942 nickels are silver. To be sure, check above the dome on the back for a mintmark(P or S) ...

The non-silver nickels could be: 1942 and 1942d,but to be sure 100%, you need to check above the dome.

1942 nickels reguardless if they are silver or not, are uncommon. I have only came across 3 in my CRH career, 2 were non-silver and one was.

Thanks for all the advice. So far I have gotten 2 1942's but both were not silver. :'(

I've only found 2 war nickles. Both had the P mint mark above the dome and they were both found metal detecting. I've never found a war nickle in a roll.
