So I knocked a door across from Antietam Battlefield today and got a yes. Nice old lady said her field has been hunted a ton over the years. Had to hunt over an hour and a half before my first little Spanish silver ever popped out of the ground. Thought it was play money at first. Was huntin out civil war relics but didn't expect this. Too bad the date is gone. I also found the brass hanger thing. Might be civil war but I dont recognize the style. Does anyone else?

Looks like a nice coin. It could very well be a counterfeit coin too. It almost has that look to it. No worries, some of the counterfeit's are more desirable to collectors that originals. Nice save

Thanks Woody, lol, I hastily put up the third pic and didn't realize until I turned off the putter that I had uploaded the large photo. Will have to fix that tomorrow.

That Was A Cool Find.... Can you see a date at all?

Congrats on your first Spanish silver coin. That area you are hunting is loaded with colonial as well as Civil War relics. I found marked two Rev War buttons just over the river on the WV side.

Looks 'real' to me; I see no incentive to counterfeit 1/2 real coins. Should be about 18mm, nearly .900 fine, minted during the reign of Carlos the ? in Mexico City in the year ??

After scrutiny with a magnifier, I believe we have a date--1777. Woohoo! My oldest coin now by ten years.

Definitely three 7's on there

If three "7s" then (obviously) 1777 and same assayer: FM; Carlos III.
CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA (year); HISPAN. ET IND R; then little 'o' over M, FM.

Congrat's Man.....I think the "hanger" is called a gag loop, part of some horse tack.Could be wrong?

Congrats! I'll always remember my first.. (Spanish) :laughing7:

Not got mine yet :laughing9: CONGRATS :hello2:

Hispan will get mad, with you holding it up-side-down :laughing7:
