I finally dug a Civil War belt plate. Good finds are always when you least expect it. The property I was hunting has a lot of history so I knew there was a chance for good finds but there was also a lot of modern trash. I almost didn't dig the buckle because it sounded like another can. Thank goodness I did! I also dug the Rifleman button and the artillery shell sabot on the same day. All I can say about the site is that it is in Virginia and on the Appomattox river. The sabot was dug on the beach under about a foot of sand. Which is why it is in such good shape. That's exactly how it looked when it came out of the ground. A pretty good day i'd say. Also, I don't know why my pictures always get flipped around when I post them on here but I can not figure out how to fix it. If you click on them individually they will appear correctly.
