I found an 1899 v nickel last sunday. My oldest coin and my first v nickel.

Nice find on the V nickel! I've only found one of those, also an 1899.

Thanks guys. I hate that I scratched it but I still love it. I was diggin in a local park that isnt that old so I never expected an old coin to be there. I usually just dig clad there and some silver jewelry from time to time so I was thinking it was just another nickel. Needless to say I was PLEASANTLY suprised.

A lot of times in Texas, parks and even schools are built on old home sites. Possibly the land being donated to the cities or school districts.
