My first "V" nickel!

It was pure joy to go detecting after missing out for a week.
I had hopes of finding some bling, i did...sort of. :sly:
First find of the day, a bejewled starfish...on dry land! I believe it is a sew on ornament, has 4 holes, no loop or post and the # 2138 on the back.

The 1925 wheat read as a quarter, i chalk that up to a hard time ground balancing. The orange paw bead is a plastic surface find.

I finally found a spot where i could ground balance, that seemed to bring out the quarters, dimes and nickels for a clad fest!!! ;)
I thought one of those nickels felt a little "off". :what: I didn't know how "off" till i later cleaned it at home. My first "V" nickel!!! ....unreadable date...of course! :banghead:

Even one of the zincs came out sporting its own rootball! I thought it was a piece of tin foil for a while! :what:

This sports field is full of all sorts of surprises! Tons of trash, abundant clad, gold ring, silver rings, wheats, Rosie, musket ball, V nickel, car parts. Finding the kitchen sink here would not surprise me....may need a larger trash pouch!

Can anyone make out the date on my toasted V?
.....i may have to post pics in a second post...it tells me i'm not logged in :what::(:banghead:

Well now! Congratulations are in order! A first is a first! That's great to see you having such a nice walk!

My eyes aren't what they used to be but the date looks like 1400 to me. :tongue3:

I'd try a couple short soaks in some ketchup. :dontknow:

I can't make out the date. Sorry. Congrats on your first V though

1904 possibly?

Couldn't tell you what the date is on that v-nickel but, in my book it really doesn't matter. A v-nickel is a v-nickel and your first, Congrats!!
The few v's I've found are pretty toasted but, I can see they are v-nickels.

Congrats on your first V-nickel my friend! They sure come out an ugly red color don't they?? A first is a first though- hope there are many more out there waiting for you !!

Try using the pointed end of a double-pointed toothpick under the bust. That's where the date will be. Could be after using a toothpick you'll be able to make out the date. It will be worth it!

Congrats on your first v

Congrats! Still looking for my first V Nickel

I agree with ScubaDetector it looks to be 1904. Congrats on your first one!

a light gentle rub with wet Brillo under the faucet will have you doing cartwheels---try it, then thank me by sending me a check :---)

Congrats on the finds and very nice first! :)

Congratulations, great find and a first too. Hope that site holds more firsts!

Cant see a date Msbeepbeep but congrats on your first V nickel....:icon_thumleft:

Congrats! You hit it hard enough and often enough that I'm really happy to see you get something special.

Congrats on your first V Nickel BeepBeep. I usually soak mine in olive oil for a week ( or until I remember that I left one in the olive oil - which could be a week or 3 ). That will sometimes bring the date and some clarity back to the coin.

WTG Ms BpBp, it's always a great feeling pulling a first. In 25 months I've only dug one myself.

Congrats on your first V nickel MBB!

Best of luck to you.
