My first "V" nickel!

It was pure joy to go detecting after missing out for a week.
I had hopes of finding some bling, i did...sort of. :sly:
First find of the day, a bejewled starfish...on dry land! I believe it is a sew on ornament, has 4 holes, no loop or post and the # 2138 on the back.

The 1925 wheat read as a quarter, i chalk that up to a hard time ground balancing. The orange paw bead is a plastic surface find.

I finally found a spot where i could ground balance, that seemed to bring out the quarters, dimes and nickels for a clad fest!!! ;)
I thought one of those nickels felt a little "off". :what: I didn't know how "off" till i later cleaned it at home. My first "V" nickel!!! ....unreadable date...of course! :banghead:

Even one of the zincs came out sporting its own rootball! I thought it was a piece of tin foil for a while! :what:

This sports field is full of all sorts of surprises! Tons of trash, abundant clad, gold ring, silver rings, wheats, Rosie, musket ball, V nickel, car parts. Finding the kitchen sink here would not surprise me....may need a larger trash pouch!

Can anyone make out the date on my toasted V?
.....i may have to post pics in a second post...it tells me i'm not logged in :what::(:banghead:

There ya go,nice recovery! Even though V nickels are often crusty, they are so pretty to me. I think that starfish came from a mermaid for sure.:tongue3:

Congrats! What a great find. I think it reads 1904, also. My husband and I were discussing a sports complex that has been around for awhile near us. I told him it would be a clad fest at the very least. Hoping we can make.it over there sometime soon. From the looks of it it would be worth checking out. Hope you have many more good finds!

Congratz on your first V Nickel!!! :hello2:

Nice find. I sure do love the way those nickels were made.

Congrats on you first! I found my first V last week, so if you were even half as excited as I was then you had a great day! I still pull it out of the drawer every now and then to look at it. I'm such a geek...

It was a meandering kinda walk. A 1400 V nickel...can i quote you on that? :D

Absolutely! It's a testament to the state of my eyes. ;)
The ketchup thing? Surprisingly, I've known it to work. Hope you can get your date.
Congrats again on your first.

Congratualtions on the V-nickle! Trashy places IMHO are the best to hunt, many keepers hiding an await retrieval and very little competition! :occasion14:

WHADIFIND- i did put a little ketchup on the back for a few minutes, i think i have to keep it on longer, not much change.
Well at lest you can "see" a date on it! Lol!

Thanks Proffessor!
Someone would have to be out of their mind to detect this field. :D
The detector literally is continually chattering, you can end up with a headache till you've done it for a while.
Probably why i am the only hunter there. :sly:cool:
I'm sure more goodies are there, its a large field and the going has to be slow.

got my first v this year too, we will always share this year..

congrats on the V.

Congrats on your V.....sweet. I've come across a lot of high VDI wheats, too.

Great coins. They are some of my favorite designs. It took me a very long time to find my first and then they just started flying out of the ground! :D
