WOW - that '09VDB looks in great shape except for the small rim dent (but I can't see the obverse too well) - that's an amazing find

The '72 isn't a proof. San Fran made both business strikes and proofs that year. Yours is one of 300+ million business strikes.

Nice vdb!!! unfourtinately the 72s is not a proof, sorry.

nice vdb man! awesome job

Diver-down: I didn't take a good pictrure. This is a proof when I compare with my other BU 1972-s I found. It is thicker than others and has a mirror surface.

We are always amazed at what coin roll hunters find in the wild. GREAT JOB!!

If you say so, then I'll concede the point. I was surprised you were claiming such knowing what you know about coins. I still don't see it. Anyway, nice finds.

I find those 70's S mint marks all the time
but nice vdb

A little recap to what Diver_Down is saying...

The US mint in san francisco minted pennies into circulation that were not proofs,
but business strikes just like philly and denver mint. 1974 was the last year they made the "S" mint penny,
or any circulation penny at that. Just because you got a 1972-s penny does not mean it is proof.

They did make proof sets in 1972, so the 1972-s PROOF penny is quite possible.

Here's a little advise from somebody who has been at pennies for years. I have done hundreds of boxes,
only found 1 proof penny. In fact, it was my last penny box searched, on 12/2.

I do not post my finds much anymore. I got a beautiful 2000-s proof penny,
looks like it was taken out of the set yesterday(or earlier today :laughing9: )

I am not saying you're wrong, but to back diver_down up,
he really knows his stuff and is a really helpful person.

HH and happy holidays!

Well, I don't want to pile on. If Yinzi says so, then it is. He knows his coins. I just don't see it in the photo. Looks like the business strike to me. But your post is good information for the other readers. Now imagine how much more relevant it would be, if you referred to the coins as cents. :laughing7:

Guys, you have to trust me on this. I have 11 bu 1972-s that I've found from rolls but I didn't call any one of them as proof. This is a coin that you will know when you come across just like proof Frankie, 64 proof Kennedy, 65-67 sms Kennedies, pre-67 proof nickels, 68-70s proof nickels, etc.

Anyway, I posted it here to encourage others to keep hunting. HH everyone!

Understood, sorry i beat on ya a little, but just letting others know that not all "S" mint cents are proofs, I have 100% faith in you that the 1972-s penny is a proof. :icon_sunny:

If I didn't know any better, I think you are pulling my chain, BB. Cents and Penny in the same sentence? ::)
