My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

Got bored today and decided to do some coin roll hunting and decided to call a bank that I don't usually go to and asked if they had any halves and they said yes, $100.00 dollars worth so I go down and buy them and while I was there I asked if I could get a box of nickels to and they said that was fine. When I made it home I opened the rolls of halves and all skunks. Then I opened up the box of nickels and started searching hoping I would find some war nickels to add to the silver pile. :D Searched threw the first 49 rolls and found some very nice older Jefferson Nickels, Then on the last roll I found 3 No-Date Buffalo Nickels and 1 1866 Shield Nickel :headbang: I don't know if you will be able to see the date on the shield nickel due to the coin is very worn and I uploaded using a scanner. Under a loop I can see the date 1866 pretty well. Good Luck And Happy Hunting!!!!

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

Wow, big time congrats! Only the 2nd shield I've ever seen posted on this forum in 4 years.

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

WOW
I dream of pulling a shield nick!!!!!
Well done, congratulations :notworthy:

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

Thats a great score. Shields are hard to come by in circulation. With rays to boot. Think the only one I saw here was rejected from a coin machine. Great find!

When it comes to a coin that uncommon, chances are some kid broke into their parents collection and used the coin in change... Especially if it has rays. I've only found 1 shield nickel(1904) let alone a shield nickel most likely from 1860's.

Just awesome :notworthy: Those shields are definetely hard to come by, but in CRH ::)

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

Good job on the nickels. I have never heard of somebody finding a shield nickel until now. Keep up the good work.

I Was Thinking The Same Thing That A Kid Got Into A Coin Collection, Going To Go Back Tommorow And Get Another Box To See If Theres Anymore!!!

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

killer find!

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

good luck!! Also, that would be a good nickel box with just 2 buffalo nickels in it (date or no date)... 4 boxes of nickels and no buffalo nickels and 1 war nickel... I usually never got skunked on nickels ???

Have you?

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

Wow graet find.....Matt

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

wow that is just stupid nice lol
I actually just finished a nickel box and was coming on to post about it.
I also got two no date buffs. in one box. I would have been happy with a war nickel out of the whole box lol. What are shields prices? im new to crh kinda new to coins period. Buffs no date value?

I Looked Up The Shield Nickel On PCGS Price Guide ( I Know There Over Inflated On Price) And It Said $22.00 Dollars In G4 So I'm Figuring The Coin I Found Is In AG3 Grade Or Less So Figure About $10 Dollars. I Don't Know What Dateless Buffalo Nickels Our Going For But My Coin Dealer I Frequent Pays $0.07 Each For Them And Sells Them For $0.15 Each. I Would Shop Around And See What Others Are Paying. Good Luck And Happy Hunting!!!

Re: My Jefferson's And Buffalo's Were Shielded

Congrats on that box, a shield nickel is an unheard of find here! :icon_thumleft: I had mentioned in an earlier post that with all the V nickels being found, someone was due to find a shield nickel. Glad to see you were able to get a date off it.

You sure that 1904 was a shield and not a V? If so it was indeed a rare find.... :laughing9: :laughing9:
