i went out around 3:00 this afternoon so i didn't really have long to hunt before it started getting dark. i went to the part of the yard where i had gotten the gun from. i dug a bunch of barbed wire, most of it near the surface... then i got a gold/nickel reading on my titan. i dug it and found a nickel. it was very worn and lots of crud on it. i put it in my pouch and went along detecting as usual. more barbed wire and a piece of pipe... i came inside because i was getting cold and it was getting dark. i tried cleaning up the nickel with a toothbrush and soapy water. i could start to see writing on it. then i could just make out a "V". i was like :o :o :o omg i've got a V nickel!! i did the happy dance for sure.

I think you're really good with a camera to. Those two photos are excellent. I'd be surprised if your scanner does any better. Nice job, and nice find.

Way to go, Pookie!!!   :icon_queen: :icon_queen: :icon_queen:

Superb coin! Youre efforts have been rewarded. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more coins hiding under all that wire...

I find that when I scan any coin that has faint details, the scanner makes them harder to see. If that happens to you, lay the coin on a flat surface and light it from the side with a flashlight or another bright light, then use your digital camera to take a photo without flash. The light coming across the surface at an angle tends to bring the details out more. :)

as you say 189? now you have a new target to beat. get out there & find more...

It looks like an 1891 to me.....but I need glasses. Exciting find!!!!!!!!
