My oldest Large Cent

[barry61]

Hi everybody,
Hit an old homesight today,Derick found a king george and a nice decorative piece from a musket.
We were about to leave and we heard the farmer cutting hay across the road and Derrick said lets
give it a shot.Away we went and I am glad we did.Got an iffy signal hovering around quarter
and dug this beauty. My oldest large cent,1800,80 over 79.
Thanks for looking and happy hunting
Barry

Nice large cent you gotta love when those iffy signals turn out to be good.

Barry Dude from the Upstate NY,

Derek752 has told me a lot about your great instinct in sniffing out the Colonial goodies. If you guys continue to team up on these Colonial sites, I can just see the finds coming in record amounts.

I looove that Draped Bust largie. I just found one about a month ago, and it, too, was my first Draped cent. There could potentially be a Draped Bust or Flowing Hair silver coin waiting in that hay field. I know for a metal datecting fact that you both will hit it until it is bone dry.

It is good to see you posting here, and I hope to see many more Colonial and early American coinage and relics from you!

Nice 1800!! Have you attempted to clean it or is it even worth trying? Hard to tell from the picture if it is just worn or has many years of crud. I'd be going back to that site and looking for signs of a house
