Detector(s) used
Garrett AT Pro, Equinox 800 (as of 10/2019)
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Took my youngest boy to soccer practice and brought my detector along with me to hit a nearby farm field. I set the timer on my phone for 40 minutes in case I lost track of time and forgot about him while in my detecting trance. I was digging almost no targets for 30 minutes when I got a coin signal showing in the low 70s, which is usually a penny on my AT Pro. I dug my initial plug and re-scanned the hole. Now it was showing in the low 80s, which is closer to a dime, so I got excited. I flipped over another plug and it was sitting right on top. This is my third Seated Liberty, with my first back in February. It is also my oldest. I am running out of good spots, so I am going to enjoy this luck while I got it. I also dug this small sharp object about 6 to 8 inches down. Any ideas? One end is threaded, while the other end is shaped to a point. I don’t bow hunt, but would this be some sort of removable tip to an arrow? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Good luck out there!

I believe that is a screw in tip to an aluminum arrow.

Nice coin!

Way to go on the seated and my guess about the pointed object would be a soldering iron tip if it is copper.

Yes that is a aluminum target arrow tip

Target tip for an aluminum arrow.

Yep like I said arrow tip...lol

I've shot bows since I was a kid and I've never seen a target point that wasn't steel. I'll go with soldering iron tip. Gary

Soldering tip, not arrow tip.

Yes, I am with the crew that says screw in tip for an arrow. Its a target tip used for practicing, not hunting.

Johncoho .... "I guess my final question is, what material is the pointed tip made of? Aluminum, steel, or copper?"

Thanks for the ideas. I was leaning toward the target arrow, especially since I found it in a field. However, the soldering tip makes sense too. I am not sure what material it is, though it seems too heavy to be aluminum and it has some corrosion. It is not magnetic. Maybe this is copper? Thanks!

50 plus years of archery and bowhunting has me saying not arrow tip. But hey, I could be wrong.

Congratulations on the seated. They are few and far between up here in the mountains.

I agree with the soldering tip. I have seen a lot of aluminum target arrow tips and they have a rounded point and are less than an inch long. This one has flat angled sides and is longer like the soldering tips I have seen over the years.

Nice seated! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:
