This has been identified as roman and is possibly
an ornate roman knife handle.
Is being investigated and verified and is
probably one of my best ever finds.

Although i live in wales u.k.
this was found on a roman site
in county of dorset in southern England.

Where is the rest of the knife ?

seems it was broken off in antiquity
although a small amount of iron
remains on the bottom of hilt.

WTG, that looks more like some type of pummel, just above the hilt. I think where the blade coming out is where the grip and wrapping would be, then the hilt.
