My Spokeshaves

(I was asked to show some of my older pieces so I'm going to bump up a few of my posts so they can see them rather than post them again)




I figured since there were already a couple posts with Spokeshaves I would post mine as well rather than put them on those posts. All of these are personal finds except one and that one I got from a "junk box" at the Flea Market for 50 cents. The guy said, "It's just an old broken arrowhead". lol It's the one in the top right of the tray and the first individual picture. I just smiled and handed him 2 quarters and walked away a happy man.

I am amazed at how many of those you have were halfted. I find quite a few spokeshaves out here, but few were ever halfted.

Just curious, what is a spokeshave and how was it used.

It's a tool used to remove nubs of branches and bark from a piece of wood that is being made into a shaft or handle.

Thanks guys. According to Bob Converse of the ASO they are one of the rarest Flint Tools in the state of Ohio.
