Hi folks. I haven't been out for a couple months, but I got out today before and after a thunder shower. First site was too overgrown to hunt. The second site had six feet of corn on it. Oh well, I'll just hunt the periphery of the field, thought I. I hunted about 100 feet in each direction from one corner. Btw, this is the site of a mid 19th century train depot and saloon. Immediately I eyeballed a clay marble...cool. Then I got an odd signal that turned out to be a rusty washer and this Vicky 1/2 cent, 1861. Made my day!
:D

Nice 1/2 cent coin.

I like the patina!

Congrats

Nice coin and clay marble. Clay marbles are nice to find, but they don't pick up too good on my detector. Way to go!

WTG Eljeef. I wish my wife would tell me to get lost for a while. I know a little place not far from here that I've been eyeing for some time now and just chomping at the bit to get my XLT on. Great 1/2 cent by the way. HH

Hate to be a pain, but its a Halfpenny. :)

Great digs. I would bet that spot produces a LOT after the corn is harvested!

Good luck and congrats!

you guys find a lot in cornfields?

In Nebraska, we have a lot of that. I live on the outskirts of town, so we've got corn and bean fields all around us.

Sweet finds,.....About your pics...how do you get the pics to come out so nice,i notice it says scan below them,do you put the finds directly on the scanner or did you take a picture first and then scan the pic.If so what type of camera are you using?

I used a webcam to take pics of my finds(which are OK) but not as beautifully detailed as others..any tips

I find all my stuff in corn/wheat etc fields.

Congrats on the finds, that field will produce some interesting relics when it's harvested. I also found a clay marble today. HH, Mike

Hi. Sorry it took so long to respond, I was away for a few days. I do use my scanner. I just lay them on the glass. I lay a blue folder on top of them because if I don't they will wash out with the white background. Then I scan them , adjust the contrast, brightness and maybe the sharpness (all with my scanner software ) and upload the photos. It works great with fairly flat finds. Anything large, like a cannon-ball is ill advised. ;)

Nice coin, good to listen to the wife sometimes!

yes the british used the term "penny" in their money --so when america became "independant" they used the word "cents" to be "differant"---from the british money---many americans still use the term "penny" however due to our strong link with the british money system the word has stayed with us---the united states govt has "never" offically made a penny by the way only cents-- Ivan

Good luck, & Happy hunting~
