Great hunt again , If you've never tried an open seeded hunt , your missing out on one of the better aspects of our hobby! Minelab and the south jersey club did a great job again !

Terry 35- per person, for a chance at 8 minelab detectors 2 explorers 2 excals 1 etrac 3 safaris and a 505 plus tons of silver rounds gold coins and Spanish 2-4 reales minelab and golddigger detector sales and demarco detectors foot the bill for 90% of the stuff , the first year they hosted a black tie banquet and gave away 8 ctx3030 2 gpx 5000 a few excals and safaris and and lots from the Xterra line easily 20 K + worth of machines !

It was broken reeds Jeff , just on a south side , the hunt field was huge this year with a lot less people than last year! Sorry you couldn't make it would have liked to have met you!

Thanks Jeff! I saw my girlfriend in several of the clips of the hunts!

Looks like it was fun...

Treasure hunter, it was lots of fun, I detected for about 7 yrs before I joined a club and participated in my first seated hunt, that was about 2005-6 , I won a exterra 705 last year along with a gold 2.5 dollar coin and some sweat Spanish silver coins

How are that many minelabs able to be so close together? If I get within 30-40ft of my wife, our Excals scream.

I attended 4 of the Great Southern Beach Shootouts held in Daytona Beach held over a 3 day period... There were 5 hunts on Fridays, 5 on Saturdays and 3 on Sundays.....

The hunt is open to any brand ( minelab doesn't care what brand you bring) the best machines for these types of hunts have a frequency shift knob , nothing is planted deeper than 4"s some stuff is just covered! Excal is a hard machine to pinpoint quickly there where allot of people who brought ctx3030s that's by far the worst choice unless it's your only machine! You run machine at min sensitivity to avoid chatter!

I never got to attend the 1 in Daytona they canceld it cause of AHoles salting the field with foil balls and lead pellets ( I heard) they had huge cash prizes , it's a ton of work to put on 1 day single hunt so I don't blame them for canceling it!

Wasn't canceled for that at all, that was a minor inconvenience, it was canceled due to the death of Ray Leist, one of the main promoters of the event and he was great person..

Event was a 3 day of hunts not 1 day and prizes were over a dozen top of the line detectors plus over $15,000 in prizes......

Sorry for the loss! I guess I was thinking of the 2009 hunt I remember they where really disappointed with the poor sportsmanship of some people.

Great pics, Shawn; thanks for sharing the fun with us.

Lorraine

Thank you Lorraine

This was my first year going but it won't be my last. I had a great time I was hanging out at the second table. I was the guy with the aqua blue shirt a big black back pack, with the AT-Pro with a camo cover. Unfortunately I didn't run into any other forum members. I did pretty well I found a token from last years hunt and another token for this years hunt. They thought the token might have gotten mixed up with this years so I got a 1760 2 reale!! The other token got me a 2014 1oz silver dollar!! I also found 3 no date Buffalo nickels, a 1903 V nickel, 1891 Indian Head penny, 4 Kennedy half dollars, 27 wheat pennies, 17 coins from various countries, a tent stake, various bottle caps, and a modern 2012 nickel that had turned red from sitting iin the salty sand.
As far as I am concerned, not too shabby!

as Shawn mentioned , there are enough different Brand detectors being used you don't need to stand by
other Minelab detector users.
and most turn down their sensitivity since the targets are just thrown in the sand and
a little bit brushed over them.
some of the targets end up eyeball finds anyway.

The first year I attended I only remember having one guys detector interfere with me.
he must have been pushing his sense to the max :laughing7: whether it effected him too or if it was
on purpose I don't know.

My 3 biggest problems were

1. the Speed I could physically hunt made it possible for the younger crowd to cover more ground
more quickly.

2. other detector users, appearing to try to swing in front of me before I would get there

and 3. with the amount of hunters, after the first 10 Minutes, it was hard for me to find
more targets.

which are all related problems being

I'm more of a Relaxed hunter. I like to just stroll around, not Compete.

But it is still a Fun time when the weather Cooperates
