Hi to everyone!!! I am new to this site.Have been detecting since Sept.2008.Don't have pictures of my many finds but will post soon. I have a question I need help with.I have asked permission to hunt many private places but can not receive permission until I have a business card to leave. If anyone has any info they would like to share on how to get started I would greatly appreciate it.I need to know how to design, get printed etc.I also need to know if you have to register the name you select and soforth.Thank you for any help. :icon_study:

If this is to be a "for profit" endeavor, you would register your name with city and state officials. They would let you know if the name was available. If this is just a calling card, Kinkos is a cheap alternative or even a computer program and printer would suffice. You could also don a uniform with some generic symbol and explain to the homeowner you are looking for ground leaks and to please go back inside, it isn't safe for you to be out here. I may try that one.

You can get business card stock for many printers. Then make one up with some nice info, making sure that the card does not represent a business or enterprise but simply a hobby. A small saying or motto should do it.

Don't forget to put your willingness to help locate lost items on the card as well.

Here's mine that I designed online using Vista Print. I printed front and back with my "code of ethics" on the back.

Vista Print is inexpensive and does a great job printing them. You might save a little bit if you bought the card stock and printed them on your own computer but Vista Print looks more professional IMHO.

I've removed some of my information so as to keep the internet crazy's down to a minimum. :tard:

I think a card helps to add legitimacy to what we're trying to accomplish.

Paladin had a business card that simply said: 'Have gun, will travel.'

Simpler is better.

Not sure I can make mine any simplier. :icon_study:

I also went with Vista Print. The process to setup the card as you want it is a little lenghty. I think it ended up costing around $14 for 250 shipping included. There are more sources though.

Many thanks to everyone for the great information. It is good to know there are so many knowlegable on this web site. :icon_sunny:

I agree with the above, but be aware that the ink in inkjet printers does not do well in wet conditions. It tends to run, smudge, smear etc... Better to let the professionals print them for you at a nominal cost. Just MHO.

VISTA PRINT ARE A BUNCH OF CROOKS!!!!! After I upgraded my free
cards to a custom order they arrived just fine and they kept billing me
for them every month until I threatened to have them arrested for FRAUD.
Since I paid for them with the debit card from my hobby account they
overdrafted my account twice and cost me $158 in fees over and above
the extra $100 they billed me that i also never got back. STAY AWAY
FROM THEM. siegfried schlagrule

I've used Vista Print on two separate occasions and have never had an issue with them.

Indeed I have and I'll have no qualms about using them again. Sorry you had the experience you did.
