It looks like a ring that has been in the water for a long, long time. If it’s silver, a soak in lemon juice might help but given its condition it may be impossible to learn anything more about it. Is there anything readable on the inside of the band?

Definitely missing a stone/s...

there are no markings of any kind on the inside
i think it's bronze so maybe i will clean it but i won't want to damage the ring
so i'll have to look into that

If it is copper/brass it was probably plated at one time?

Was this found in the US or another country? Is it possible, judging from the design being carved into the ring, that it was a seal of some sort?

That is what I was thinking, maybe an old wax seal ring.

found in the netherlands , so it could have been in our wet soil for ages
looks to me like i has been carved in to it
i don't think there were any stones missing or ever in this ring
