✅ SOLVED Need help identifying this ornate piece

is this part of a bridal? found very deep, but casting looks more modern to me. homesite dates to early 1800s. any help appreciated!

It reminds me of part of a hook buckle latch like were/are used on things from suitcases to hood (etc) latches. If you look down the page at this link you might see what I mean:

That's an interesting idea. A sort of hanger. I wonder if the channels on the back of mine would hold the lines of whatever it was holding in place? I instinctively thought that something ran between those marks, but maybe they held the item down, below them. I'll mark this as solved, as that is close enough for me, unless someone else has a better guess.
