I'm guessing 18th century Dutch..

Someone will nail it, I just like guessing.

Have you a picture of the other side, it will help.

Possibly an Indian / Portuguese "Tanga" of some type...

Compare to this picture for design elements...

If this is NOT it... maybe it's close.

Thanks guys for all the help. Montana Jim What do you think the year might be ?

No clue... that coin of yours is pretty beat up and I can't find one that is exact... and I'm not even sure about the origin!

Only a proper attribution will give you a possible date... keep looking though!

It may be a coin of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves.
Note the coat of arms here:

---and the similarity of the four images within the coat of arms crest.
Don.....
Here they are for comparison Mackaydon. I think you are on to something. Its very similar to the flag of Portugal but with a rounded bottom... 7 castles, 5 dominos in center. Amazing find T Hunter. Too bad its so worn.

1815-1822. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_of_Portugal,_Brazil,_and_the_Algarve
The United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves was a monarchy consisting of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarve. It came into being when the Portuguese king John VI moved to the colony of Brazil during the war with Napoleonic France in 1808. The colony of Brazil was elevated to the rank of a Kingdom, and the Kingdoms of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarve were united as a single State by the title of The United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves by a Law issued on December 16, 1815.

In 1822 the Brazilian regent Dom Pedro, son of John VI, declared the Brazilian independence, as a consequence of the Liberal Revolution of 1820 in Portugal, and became Emperor Pedro I of Brazil, which meant the end of this United Kingdom.
