Need help id'ing this item.

I dug this today on a revolutionary war battle site. Where I found it there were British and Hessian troops. We found a musketball about 30' from this also. It measures about 3" x 3" Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'd go with bridle rosette.
That spiral motif is common in that period for those.

Was it common amongst all countries or could it be singled out to just one?

You might want to delve into some deeper research the ball's in your court just saying it looks like a colonial period rosette to me.
Maybe measure the caliber of the musket balls found close by or use some recovered artifacts from the area to determine your best guess as to where that piece originated

That would make sense. Thanks for the help!

No problem at all nice find good luck out there
