Need help id'ing this item

I found this about 10" deep on a Revolutionary war battle site. Its about 3" x 3" Its from the battle of Rhode Island. I think it was on the British/Hessian side but could be American/French. We dug a musketball 30' from this item. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I know you were in a historical area and my idea might not be as interesting but it really looks like a drapery rosette to me.
Can you give some size reference? Maybe it's a bridle rosette.

Does it look like there are places where a shank was attached to the back?

As far as I can see no. But that doesn't mean there wasn't one.

I would agree appears to be "Copper Bridle Rosette" 1800's
