need help iding this lead piece....

need help id'ing this lead piece....

Found yesterday in area that we have dug 1700's thru 1900's items. This piece is pretty heavy, it looks carved, but then the top looks like it would come open, but it doesn't, it has a string thru a hole at the top. It measures 2" x 1" Any clues??

that's an unusual looking piece. is that possibly chinese writing on the bottom? hope someone here can ID it for you. nice find.
