✅ SOLVED Need help on this find.

Dug this a decade ago, just came across it again while sorting the finds out.
A quarter fits on the inside of the rim.
Thinking a pewter/or lead base.
Any ideas folks?

I think it's half of a colonial era cufflink. They sometimes featured political, noble, or military men.

The picture is too blurry to make out enough of the letters to figure it out.

Please don't take pics of relics in your hand as it often causes the camera to focus on your fingerprints instead of the artifact.

That would be a pretty big set of links.
I'll try to get a better picture later on today.

I think it says Republica de Cuba 50 CTS? Searching is only bringing up coins for me, but I just started. Brainstorming that it might have been a hat pin or similar?

If it does relate to Cuba, it couldn’t be earlier than 1902 when the Republic was recognised. It’s possible that the ’50 CT..’ (I wasn't certain there's a letter 'S' after 'CT') relates to a value of 50 centavos but I don’t see it as a coin or token (not even something like a button or cufflink made from a coin or token). I don’t recognise who the bust might be, unless some kind of personification of the country.

Might it be some kind of seal that was attached to something with a taxable value? Rum? Cigars?

I just came back to wonder if it was perhaps cigar related? Maybe a medallion that was attached to a crate/shipment of cigars? The bust reminds me of José Martí. Similar to some of the coins, but a mirror image.

Probably related to a 50 cigar count from Cuba.
Which makes it a cool recovery.

The bust could easily be Maximo Gomez - a hero of Cuban independence from Spain. He is featured on numerous currency, postage stamps, and coins of old Cuba.
