Need help with ID on this!!! Never found one of these.

[Gregg3131]

I found this at a very old early 1800s house site. Thought I had a cattle tag but when I cleaned it has The Stag written on it no 12? Any idea what this is

Could be a tool check tag, hotel room key tag, baggage claim tag....is it brass?

[mojjax]

Maybe a hotel tag to a Brothel

FWIW, there was a Stag Hotel Corporation in Virginia in the early 1900's...could have been in business in the 1800's for all I know. If found in Virginia, I think one can make an argument that it's a key fob from one of their hotels. One hotel was located in Norfolk, I'm sure there were others....

Yes found in Hanover VA. It is brass. Very interesting.

The Stag hotel is a comparatively new institution that seems to be gaining in favor The genuine stag hotel carries its for men only idea to the employes also The housekeeper chamber work scrubbing and such like is done by males The genuine stag hotel has a matter of course a turkish bath establishment an up to date bar buffet grill smoking rooms etc and guests may move about the house go to and from the baths and visit among themselves in dishabille with the freedom of an Eveless Eden
