Need id on these spanish cobs

Jacky......can you post the weights of each? Time being I am going to resize them and try to identify them. It is hard identifying them in 2x2's. What denomination were the 2x2's designed for?

All three from Peru (Potosi or Lima) and are post-1652 transition (because of pillar and waves). Bigger pictures will be necessary for more specifics, but bottom is a 1 reale assayer V. From the scale I would say the others are 1 reale coins too if the coin holders are the same size. Middle date looks like (16)94. Weights would also be nice to know, but not possible to measure accurately of course unless you unpackage them.

Thank´s everyone.

I will put the weigts and measurements this afternoon.

PS. If you click on the picture you can see the photo in big.
There are 6 pictures..... 3 coins, 6 sides = 6 pictures
Hope this help´s.

Bottom coin 1R Lima Assayer V (Francisco Villegas). An easy estimate of the coin's denomination is to weigh it against the 'benchmark' 8R of about 27.5 grams. Ergo, 1R would be about 3.4 grams.

Hi everyone....

I changed the pictures.
The picture on the up left side was the same that the first in the midle...
And because of that the bottom pictures aren´t from the same coin.
:dontknow:wath happend... maybe the late hour in the evening.

:-[ :-[ :-[ Really sory.

Now every pictures are correct and i post weigts and diameter...
If you click on the pictures you open one new page with one really big picture.

Hope this helps...

Thanks everyone :notworthy:

I'll say #1 and #2 are 1R; #3 is a 2R based on weight.
IMO, diameters are less useful since the thickness of cobs vary.
Don..........

OK, I can see the pics now. For some reason they don't open in Firefox, but do in Explorer. Don, which one do you think is the Lima coin? The 1692V is a Potosi.

What I didn't notice before is that there is a shield coin. It has the denomination (II) to the left of the shield, so I'm a little puzzled. It could be from old Spain. I don't have any references with me....

Stan:
I saw the pillar '92 V as from Lima since 'V' in Potosi changed his mark to a monogramed VR in '84 to avoid this confusion.
Don....

Jacky, I noted Stan's comment and noticed on your tag that you are displaying a Portugese flag....were these coins acquired on this side of the Atlantic or in Europe?

Thanks, Wayne

I found this cob in Portugal. On the beach.

Don, I agree with you after seeing it with a better monitor. I see enough of the "L" to know it is not a "P". What you say is correct most of the time, but there are examples (apparently rare) where the V was shortened from VR even after 1684 when the die sinker ran out of room, which I assume would be more common on smaller denomination (size) coins.

Pretty sure it is Spanish then (rather than Spanish colonial). Good find....
